Hello very first Writing Lab lesson!! (inserts overly enthusiastic voice)

Yesterday was our very first practicum lesson where Ms. Trudy took us through the breakdown of our CAs. We have a total of 3 CAs, in addition to our Class Participation, two of which are individual assignments.

CA1 is an individual assignment - we have to get interviewees and write articles based on the theme we have chosen for CA 10.
CA2 is also an individual assignment - a backgrounder article, also based on our chosen theme for CA10.
The final CA10 is a group project, which is also the most interesting part because we get to produce our very own magazine, based on a selected theme our groups decide on. Each group will consist of at least 6 members, who will write a minimum of 5 articles each. Our articles from our CA1 and CA2 could be included into our CA10.

We were also tasked to carry notebooks, to pen down our thoughts or note down important things mentioned by our lecturers, as well as our interview responses.

After the introduction, we were then given a break and were asked to head over to T1841, where we viewed a documentary on the magazine production of Vogue - September Issue. From the documentary, we learnt how the designers and editor work together, hand in hand to produce each issue.

Today, we managed to finalise our groups. In the beginning, many of us were uncomfortable grouping with "strangers" as our class had a mixture of students from 03, 04 and 05. My group's roles are as follow:

Editor - Shermaine Ng
Sub-Editor - Nerissa Tan
Designer - Mae Chu
Photographer - Khairi
Content Producer / Writer - Amirah & Cheryl

As soon as the groups and roles were settled, we moved on to the possible themes that we could work on. My group came up with 3 very different ideas. After consulting with Ms Trudy, we picked seasons.

About
We are a group of Year Threes, currently studying in Singapore Polytechnic, doing a Diploma in Media and Communications.

As Year 3 students, we were given the chance to focus on one aspect of media and communications, of which we chose Journalism.

In this blog, we will put up our work and various articles to improve our writing and journalistic skills. We hope to hear your views and would be happy to have any feedback!
